It was on Sunday, the day after the defeat and the 0-8 loss at home to Malmö, that the news came that Tomas Montén had been fired.
Instead, former gold coach and club director Johan Lindbom has taken a seat in the HV booth.
Now 45-year-old Montén is speaking out in Aftonbladet.
— I already knew from day one that HV is not the club that is in phase when it comes to long-termism and rebuilding and building new. The hope was to gain some time and patience. I thought I would make it to November or December anyway. At the same time, I also understand that the pressure was great when you lose a match like that 0-8, he says.
Montén was informed on Sunday evening that the board had decided to fire him. When asked what he thinks of the decision, he replies:
— In that situation, it settles, the decision has already been made and it is not possible to argue one’s case. I won’t say I was sad, more angry and pissed off. On the situation, but of course on myself for not making it better. We have mixed good matches with too bad and I will never duck from that landing on my responsibility, he says.
Montén won only three of twelve games in HV71 and the team was last when he was fired. Johan Lindbom’s first match also ended with a loss, 0–2 away to Malmö, last Tuesday.
