A fire broke out on the morning of Saturday August 19, 2023 in an apartment building on Ile-Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis). Three dead and nineteen injured have been identified for the moment, announced the Bobigny prosecution. Among the fatal victims, a 13-year-old girl who is said to have died by throwing herself from her window. The fire would have started around 10 am according to the prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis. In total, more than 200 firefighters were mobilized to try to control the flames. An investigation has been opened for “research into the causes of death”, said the prosecution in a press briefing at the start of the afternoon. Before adding not having, for the time being, “precise information on the origin of the fire”. The firefighters indicated, at 3 p.m. this Saturday, that the fire was “extinguished”, according to information from BFMTV. The prefecture recommended to the inhabitants of the sector victim of the fire not to “open the windows” because of a “significant release of smoke”.
