A fire has broken out on the car deck of Stena Scandica outside Gotska Sandön. Around 300 people are on board, according to the Swedish Maritime Administration’s sea and air rescue centre.
– We have no information about casualties, says Lisa Mjörning, press spokesperson at the Swedish Maritime Administration.
The alarm came at 12.40.
– We have received information from the ship that the fire should be under control. But we have alerted all available units to be on site if an evacuation needs to take place, says Lisa Mjörning.
Available pilot boats and helicopters have been dispatched.
– This is how we collaborate with the Sea Rescue Society and the Coast Guard.
