A villa in Borås started to burn heavily during the night towards Monday.
An 83-year-old man died.
The alarm about the fire in the Svensgärde area came just after midnight and the rescue service sent six to seven vehicles to the operation.
– When we first arrived, flames shot out of the windows, says Per-Olof Carlsson, officer on duty at Södra Älvsborg’s rescue service association, to Borås Tidning.
The police have routinely opened a preliminary investigation into arson, but have no concrete suspicion of crime.
The 83-year-old man was alone in the house. His next of kin have been informed of the death, the police said.
