  • Fire in the locomotive – intervention in the port

    A fire broke out in a train locomotive in the port of Gothenburg during the night towards Friday. The emergency services were alerted at 00:36 and began an operation to disconnect the locomotive from the goods wagons.

    – The locomotive smokes a bit from the chimney. We will move it to a place where there are no power lines above, says Gunnar Skaven, alarm and line operator at the rescue service.

    More than 6,000 subscribers were affected by a power outage in Gävle since 22:20 on Thursday evening.

    By 00:30, most people had their electricity restored, according to operating information from Gävle energy.

  • Cars in head-on collision – road blocked

    Two cars collided head-on on road 535 in Bjurholm in Västerbotten during Thursday evening.

    The alarm was called to 112 at 9:24 p.m. Three ambulances and an ambulance helicopter were sent there.

    The drivers of each car – two men in their 40s and 65s – were taken to hospital in an ambulance.

    Their injuries are not life-threatening, the police told VK.

    The road was partially blocked during the rescue work.

    A man has thrown a stone at his dog in Simrishamn.

    Witnesses must have seen the incident and alerted the police.

    They are investigating the incident as animal cruelty, and a report of insufficient animal husbandry has been sent to the county administrative board, the police write on their website.

    A sailboat capsized off Söderhamn at 7pm today.

    – We received the alarm on 19.01. There were three people who were on a sailboat and ended up in the water and called SOS from the water surface, says Sara Eriksson, press manager at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

    According to information, there must have been an adult and two children.

    Several resources were alerted to the scene, but before they could arrive, the people should have received help.

    – We received a report that the people had been picked up from the water by a passer-by, says Sara Eriksson.

    At the moment, there is no information on the condition of the people’s injuries.

    Security at Swedish playgrounds should be strengthened. This is the opinion of the government, which is appointing an inquiry with the task of considering measures for strengthened supervision.

    The background is the accidents that have occurred at the Swedish amusement park. Last year, a woman died and several others were seriously injured after a roller coaster at Gröna Lund in Stockholm crashed.

    “The accidents in recent years at Swedish fairgrounds are a tragedy. It is important that the supervision of the amusement park is strengthened. The government is now taking the necessary steps forward to increase security for all visitors,” says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer in a press release.

  • Forest fire in Tyresta National Park

    There is a fire in Tyresta National Park according to the rescue service.

    The rescue service has received help from MSB and has three scooping aircraft on site trying to extinguish the fire. Scooping planes take water out of lakes and rivers using buckets that sit underneath the plane and then drop it over the fire.

    Almost 5 hectares of the forest have been affected by the fire.

    – We have the fire under control and are working to put it out, says Ludwig Tejler, duty officer, Södertörn rescue service.

  • Germany introduces safety laws after knife attacks

    The German government is putting forward a comprehensive proposal for tougher laws after the knife attack in Solingen last week.

    According to initial reports, the settlement includes changed rules on increased controls on migration and expanded powers for the country’s security and intelligence agencies to combat violent Islamism.

    The rules also concern more extensive questions about people’s belonging to terrorist-classified organizations, when the suspected perpetrator and the terrorist organization IS claimed to be behind the act at a jubilee party in Solingen.

    In addition, a knife ban will be introduced at larger public gatherings and festivals, according to Minister Faeser, who added that a more comprehensive set of regulations for a general knife ban must be drawn up.

    The three government parties, the Social Democrats, the Liberals (FDP) and the environmental party The Greens also want to see changes related to support for asylum seekers, as well as increased opportunities to deport asylum seekers.
