A fire broke out at an army ammunition depot in Chad’s capital N’Djamena late Tuesday, officials said. The fire was preceded by a series of explosions.
A fire broke out at an army ammunition depot in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, in Central Africa, late on Tuesday.
The president is both injured and killed in the fire Mahamat Idriss Deby I don’t said in a statement. However, the president did not specify how many were injured and killed.
Foreign minister Abderama Koulamallah confirmed on Facebook that there was an explosion at an army ammunition depot in N’Djamena.
Also according to the AFP reporter, loud explosion sounds were heard from the warehouse.
N’Djamena’s largest ammunition depot has caught fire, an army officer confirmed to AFP.
In May, junta leader Mahamat Idriss Déby won the presidential election in the first round. The elections were supposed to be a step towards civilian rule, but the elections were preceded by extensive repressive measures to silence the opposition.
