At least 38 people are injured after a fire broke out on the twentieth floor of a Manhattan skyscraper in central New York, reports CBS New York.
The TV channel states that two are being treated with life-threatening injuries and five are seriously injured.
In pictures from the scene, firefighters are seen rescuing people by lowering themselves with ropes from less fire-ravaged floors higher up in the building.
The fire reportedly broke out at 10:30 a.m. local time, and a witness told the newspaper New York Times that she ran around knocking on neighbors’ doors to warn them of the fire.
At 19:00 on Saturday, the fire service in New York stated that the fire was extinguished.
The cause of the fire is said to be a lithium-ion battery that caught fire while recharging an electric scooter.
