The alarm came at half past ten on Monday evening about a fire in a workshop. Six stations with around 45-50 firefighters are on the scene, according to Södertörn’s fire department.
— On top of the workshop we have a six-storey apartment building. There is a real fire in the workshop when the alarm goes off, and it shoots out flames. We are there with six stations and are fighting the fire, as well as evacuating smoke from stairwells, says Andreas Blomquist, officer on duty.
Four stairwells have been affected by the smoke. Three people have been taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.
The fire is not under control and the emergency services are now working to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building, which has a total of 35 staircases.
“It will last for a few more hours,” says Blomquist.
The residents have not been evacuated.
— The emergency services and the police have not evacuated any residences. It is better that they stay in the apartments so as not to inhale smoke, says Blomquist.
There is no call to residents in the immediate area to stay indoors or close windows due to the fire.
