Police and emergency services were alerted just after 6 pm to a fully developed fire in a machine hall in Umeå. The decision has now been made to let the building burn down under controlled conditions.
– The building is completely destroyed. There is nothing to save, says Sara Lindbäck Hedberg at the rescue service.
The area is cordoned off and according to the rescue service, there are gas containers in the building.
– That is why we have blocked off and we are also getting help from the police to get people to stay away, says Sara Lindbäck Hedberg.
The emergency services state that it appears that a gas cylinder has exploded. It is unclear if there are more people inside the building.
