Hietaniemi church in Hedenäset, south of Övertorneå, started burning during the night of Tuesday. According to the rescue service, the church cannot be saved, reports SVT Norrbotten and P4 Norrbotten.
The emergency services were alerted to the fire just after three o’clock. By the time it reached the church, which is built of wood, the fire was fully developed.
A total of twelve units, two of which are from Finland, are working at the fire scene.
According to information, the rescue service must have been able to save some valuable items from the church.
There is no information that anyone was injured in the fire.
