Fire in an apartment on Södermalm in Stockholm

There has been a fire in an apartment on Södermalm in Stockholm.
The emergency services were forced to break open the door to get an elderly woman out of the home.
It is always difficult to comment on injuries, but she needed to be taken to hospital, says police duty officer Sylvie Oldin.

During the night to Friday, a fire broke out in an apartment on Södermalm in Stockholm. The fire was discovered by a neighbor who saw black smoke coming from the apartment and the emergency services were called to the scene.

On site, the emergency services managed to break open the door to the apartment and get out an elderly woman who was in the home.

The emergency services were also able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the rest of the house.

– There was some smoke but we didn’t have to evacuate, says Sylvie Oldin to the news agency.

The woman’s condition is unknown.

– It is always difficult to comment on injuries, but she needed to be taken to hospital.
