Fire destroys home in Haldimand; one person injured

One person was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries related to a house fire in Haldimand County on Saturday afternoon.

Haldimand OPP, county fire and emergency services crews responded to the fire on Lakeshore Road near Selkirk at about 1:30 pm on Dec. 21.

Five people who were in the house at the time were able to exit the structure. One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Haldimand OPP said in a media release.

The fire is not classified as being suspicious, but the cause is not yet known, said police.

Good Samaritan assaulted in Brant County: Police

Police are hoping for help identifying a man suspected of assaulting a Good Samaritan on Dec. 9 in Brant County.

Ontario Provincial Police said a person stopped at about 9:30 pm to help what looked like a stranded motorist on Scott Avenue, between Oak Avenue and Lee Avenue in Paris, but ended up being assaulted.

The man left in a black vehicle going east on Scott. Only minor injuries were reported.

Police say the man is described as being about six-feet tall with a slim build and brown hair.

The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a black Nike hoodie at the time of the incident.

Brant County OPP is asking anyone with dash-cam footage around that time and that area, or who has information about the incident, to call 1-888-310-1122.
