Norfolk County firefighters and other emergency personnel responded to a fire at the Sakura Sushi restaurant near Simcoe on Thursday afternoon.
Norfolk OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk said crews responded to the scene at shortly after 4 pm The structure was fully engulfed when crews arrived, he said.
“I can tell you, it appears that everyone has gotten out of the restaurant,” Sanchuk said on social media.
Firefighters were working to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby residence, he said.
The restaurant’s address is listed as 868 Norfolk St S, Simcoe.
Highway 24 between St. John’s Road East and Lynn Valley Road are closed. Drivers should not go around the barricades, Sanchuk said.
