Fire at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant

Shortly after nine o’clock on Sunday evening, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelemskyj published a post on X showing a fire at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in the region of the same name.

According to Zelensky, the fire was started by Russian forces occupying the nuclear power plant.

The radiation levels should not have been affected by the fire, writes the president.

“As long as the Russian terrorists have control over the nuclear power plant, the situation is not and cannot be normal,” Zelensky writes.

One of Europe’s largest

The Ukrainian president further writes that Russia must be held responsible for what is happening at the occupied nuclear power plant.

“Only Ukrainian control over the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant can guarantee a return to normality and total security,” Zelensky writes.

The fire has had no impact on safety, the UN Atomic Energy Agency IAEA announced late on Sunday.

It was unclear whether the fire was fully under control late Sunday night.

Kyiv attacked with robots

The Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is one of the largest in Europe and has been occupied by Russian forces since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The data from the fire came after a day of Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory.

The capital city of Kiev was attacked with robots, resulting in at least two deaths.

In recent days, concern has grown among many Ukrainians that the Kremlin will launch airstrikes in response to the ongoing Ukrainian ground offensive in Russian Kursk.
