The fire broke out around 7am. Because a lot of smoke was initially released, the fire brigade advised people in the Mississippidreef area to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation if necessary. Many fire trucks were sent out as a precaution, but the size of the fire was ultimately not too bad. The building was full of smoke.
