Skiing veteran Krista Pärmäkoski got to celebrate in Lahtis when she won her first World Cup race in six years. The Swedes all missed the podium – Jonna Sundling was the best with a fourth place.
20 kilometers classic, with an individual start, was the distance of the day when the World Cup circus has knocked down the poles in the Finnish skiing mecca this weekend.
And it was a fun morning for the spectators in Lahtis.
33-year-old Krista Pärmäkoski was the fastest of all and narrowly won, 1.9 seconds ahead of German runner-up Victoria Carl. Kerttu Niskanen finished third and ensured that there was another home rider on the podium.
None of the blue-and-yellow skaters had any real hits, although several were quite high up in the results list. Jonna Sundling finished fourth, just over 20 seconds after Pärmäkoski. Frida Karlsson (sixth) was almost a minute slower than the winner, while Ebba Andersson (tenth) and Linn Svahn (eleventh) were both around two minutes behind.
One who had a really tough time was overall World Cup leader Jessie Diggins. The American finished only 21st.
