Rosengård, represented by Ria Öling and Anni Hartikainen, made a huge impact in the Swedish football league. Öling realizes his value to the champion team.
FC Rosengård was deafeningly superior in the Swedish football championship series. Finns Ria Öling’s and Anni Hartikainen represented by Rosengård had already secured the championship a month ago.
However, in Saturday’s final round, the team still got to embellish their readings when they beat Djurgården 3–0 at home. The balance of the season’s 26 matches was staggering, 25 wins and only one loss. The goal difference was also tight, 99–9.
Öling was also on the way to winning the national championship with the club in 2021 and 2022. Last year was a disappointment, when the team was only seventh. At that time, the championship was celebrated by Hammarby IF, which was now in bronze. Häcken had 11 points in silver after losing to Rosengården.
– Really good feelings about the season, especially since last year was so bad. You were able to appreciate every victory and goal more, Öling feels to Urheilu.
According to Öling, last year it felt like the team was punished for every mistake. Now the team was in flow throughout the season.
– Now nothing was taken for granted. We celebrate every small victory in a game or in training. We got energy from it. Last season, I felt like I was carrying a ten-kilogram backpack all the time. Now it has felt as if someone has lifted us into the air, says Öling.
Öling is also very satisfied with his own season. Five goals were scored.
– I have been an important player for our team. I have had a big role, although it has varied a lot during the season. I feel like I’ve gained the coach’s trust. It has been a challenge for me that I haven’t been able to enjoy myself. I’ve always wanted to be better, but now I have to enjoy what we’ve done together.
National team captain’s farewell
The match was emotional for FC Rosengård, as the team captain and a long-time national team player Caroline Seger39, played his last match.
Seger debuted in the Swedish national team for the first time already in 2005. He was about to achieve two Olympic silver and three Olympic bronze medals for his country. Seger was also captain of the national team.
For the 30-year-old Öling, who arrived at Sweden’s top club three years ago, Seger has been an important role model. Before Seger’s last match, Rosengård’s players had recorded greetings to their captain on video camera.
– Of course, he is incredible as a player, but also as a person. If the players in our team are treated badly, he tries to do his best in that matter. He is an incredible person.
– When I’m older one day, I’d like to be like him. Although he had a lot of injuries last season, he was still able to help the team.
In Sweden, Seger has played an important role in raising the profile of women’s football.
– He is an absolute role model in Sweden. Seger has fought for the next generations.
