Venla Harju (eighth) and Eetu Savolainen (27th) were the best Finns in the European Orienteering Championships on the opening day.
The Finnish orienteers did not reach medal pace on the opening day of the European Championships in Hungary.
Venla Harju remained the best Finn in eighth place in the women’s middle distance. In a body Eetu Savolainen was the best Finn in 27th place.
The women’s double victory went to Switzerland. by Simona Aebersold the winning time was 40.51, which Harju was more than six minutes behind.
– Actually, right now I feel very unwell. I just had to drink one and a half liters of water, Aebersold commented after winning the race in over 30 degree heat.
It took silver Natalia Gemperle and bronze to Norway Andrine Benjaminsen.
Other Finns were outside the top ten.
In the men’s category, Norway celebrated a double victory when it took the win Eirik Langedal Breivik and Kasper Harlem Fosser got silver. Swedish Albin Ridefelt won bronze.
The competition is also the third World Cup competition. Long trips are on the way on Sunday.
