Finland will participate in Iceland’s air surveillance next year. According to the Ministry of Defence, five fighters and about 50 people will go on duty.

NATO countries are responsible for Iceland’s air control, as the country does not have its own fighter jets.

According to the ministry, Finland will patrol Iceland, the Northeast Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean in February-March 2025. Regular personnel and contract soldiers will fly the planes.

Finnish soldiers also participate in NATO’s maritime surveillance, for example, in the North Atlantic for three months.

In the past year, Finland has been monitoring Romania’s airspace with a fighter jet and naval vessels with ships in the Baltic Sea.
