All departures to Tartu are canceled between April 29 and May 31 for security reasons, while “an alternative solution that does not require GPS will be in place at the airport in Tartu”, Finnair announces.
The airline adds that it is “quite common to have disturbances in the area”.
Several flights have had to be canceled in recent days. Last week, two planes were forced to return to Vantaa Airport in Helsinki due to GPS interference.
Finnair is the only company that flies internationally at Tartu.
Since 2022, GPS interference for Finnish aviation has increased. Russia is suspected of being behind it, reports EPN.
The GPS disturbances are about Russian hybrid warfare, according to Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
– Russia knows very well that the disturbances they cause are very dangerous for our air traffic and violate international conventions, to which Russia has also joined, he tells Estonian EER.
