Finland’s number one player in this Davis Cup tournament will basically be Otto Virtanen, after Emil Ruusuvuori, who suffered from various health problems, took a break for the rest of the year a week ago.
However, there have been question marks around Virtanen as well. He suffered back problems at the US Open.
However, Virtanen gave good news about his health on Tuesday.
– The condition of the back is really good. I have played many hours of tennis this week. On top of that, the rest of the training. The back hasn’t really said anything anywhere. That’s a really positive sign. It’s also a positive feeling when you can play two and a half tennis sessions without any problem day after day. Able to have fun, Virtanen was happy.
When Virtanen is the number one player of the Finnish team, he may have two matches in a row in the Davis Cup. In the match program, the singles and doubles of the number one players are consecutive.
Virtanen himself is at least ready for that. He bets that Finland will save nothing itself.
– We put everything into play for every match. Harri (Heliövaara) certainly has a say in who plays four with him. I am one hundred percent ready to play both matches, Virtanen says.
