According to Finns, the Olympic day starts in athletics, when the sprinters get into action at 11:15 a.m. Finnish record breakers will compete in the heats of the 100-meter hurdles this summer Lotta Harala and Reetta Hurske.

There are five heats in the women’s high hurdles, with the top three from each going to the semifinals. There is no time comparison. The rest of the finishers advance to the collector’s round.

Reetta Hurske runs in the third heat, where her season’s best and record of 12.68 is the fifth best in this season’s comparison. The European champions of the summer, France, have run harder Cyréna Samba-Mayela (12,31), of the USA Masai Russell (12.25), Dutch star Nadine Visser (12.36) and Australia Michelle Jenneke (12.65).

Lotta Harala runs in the fifth set. His SE time of 12.65 is the fourth best of the batch in comparison. Last winter’s World Indoor Championship winner, the Bahamas, have gone harder this season Devynne Charlton (12.49), of Jamaica Ackera Nugent (12,28) and the USA Grace Stark (12,31).

Harala is 20th in the Olympic statistics and Reetta Hurske is 23rd. Based on the statistics, both should make it to the semi-finals, at the latest from the collection rounds. 13.04 was needed for the 2016 and 2021 semifinals, and the fastest time required for the semifinals was 12.84 at the 2008 Olympics, but then there were only two semifinals, now there are three.

Even the finals have a slim chance. In Tokyo 2021, 12.67 was enough for the final, and in Rio 2016, 12.82.

Alanen in the qualifying round, Lappalainen in the collecting rounds

Anni-Linnea Alanen will be fighting for a place in the women’s javelin final in qualifying group B, which starts at 12:50 p.m.

Alanen is 26th in the Olympic statistics. In Tokyo 2021, 60.94 was needed for the final. The level in the sport is approximately the same as in 2021, so an estimated 60.50–61.50 is needed for the final.

Alanen has thrown four throws over 60 meters in his career. The record is 62.45 and the season’s best is 60.40.

Sara Lappalainen will run in the 1,500 meter heats at 1:45 p.m. Lappalainen, who has been lamenting his health problems, had a sad start on Tuesday.

Lappalainen is running in the first of two collection runs. The top three go to the semi-finals. Lappalainen’s season’s best 4:05.81 is enough for ninth place in the statistics, although even yesterday Lappalainen missed his season’s best by three seconds.

The pole vault final culminates the evening

Like Tuesday’s moukari final, the Finns will have two female athletes in the most anticipated final competition of the athletics night. Elina Lampela and Wilma Murto will culminate in the Finnish pole vault finals of the Paris Olympics on Wednesday.

The competition is scheduled to start at 19:15 Finnish time. The evening can still be long for the jumpers, as there are 20 competitors.

– We need extra fins and extra malt for the training phase, Murto estimated after the qualifying.

For the first time, Lampela is in the finals of a global value competition. In the early summer EC competitions, he was fourth in Rome and estimates that he is in record shape. His record is 463 from May.

It’s the women’s turn to start golf

In addition to athletics, Finns participate in golf and sailing today. They are participating in their second Olympics in golf Noora Komulainen and Ursula Wikström play their opening round on Wednesday. Wikström, 44, is the oldest participant in the competition. He starts on the field at 11:33, followed by Komulainen at 11:44.

The women play on the same field as the men who finished their work on Sunday, but the field is played in a shorter version. Tapio Pulkkanen and Same for Välimäki the 18th fairway, which caused difficulties, is a par 5 for women, instead of a par 4 for men.

– Success requires a very healthy race and staying away from the raffles, Wikström predicts in the Golfliitto’s press release.

The Finnish duo already represented their home country at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics eight years ago.

– It’s a big benefit to know what to expect, you don’t have to wonder about so much hassle around you. Of course, the eight years as a professional after Rio have brought confidence and routine to international competitions and playing with world stars, commented Komulainen, who has played on the women’s European tour since 2013.

The sailors were foxed

In sailing Sinem Kurtbay and Central axis finish their competition in the medal start of the Nacra 17 class starting at 15:43. The pair is in seventh place and the medal places are already out of control.

– Yes, it sucks, we came to get the medal, Keskinen smiled on Tuesday.

The Finns had carefully prepared for the Olympic waters in Marseille by spending a total of almost a year in the competition landscape over the course of three years. Still, the light winds of Marseille were poison for the Finnish duo.

– In stronger winds, we have been really fast. Of course, we’ve done well in light, but everything can do better there, Kurtbay said.
