Swedish women’s football league club Rosengård’s players have been threatened several times this season, Swedish media reported. According to the media, the latest threats are from Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

Chairman of Rosengård Håkan Wifvesson tells for Aftonbladetthat in the past threats have been directed at individual players, but the latest threat also refers to all players in the Damallsvenskan league in general.

The club does not want to comment in more detail on what the threats contain. The situation is said to be under investigation by the police.

– We know that the police will do everything they can to solve this, Wifvesson says.

Finnish national team players also play in the team from Malmö Anni Hartikainen and Ria Öling.

An exceptional situation

Rosengård has been in contact with the league organization Elitfotboll Dam about the situation. The league organization is said to have been in contact with all Damallsvenskan clubs together with the security department of the Swedish Football Association on Friday.

Secretary General of the organization Tomas Hoszek’s the situation is taken seriously in the league.

– We don’t know more than that it is a serious threat that has escalated, Hoszek commented for SVT.

According to the general secretary, the police and local authorities have been contacted about the weekend round of matches.

– We assume that there will be security measures around the matches, and the security level will perhaps be increased in connection with training as well, says Hoszek.

According to SVT, threats are usually related to certain events or judges, for example, and they usually disappear soon after they are uttered.

– This differs slightly from previous threats, because this continues. This has been going on since May, the security manager of the Swedish Football Association Martin Fredman commented on Rosengård’s case for SVT.

The club has taken action

According to Aftonbladet, all the team’s practices are closed due to the situation. In addition, entry to the team’s home ground in Malmö has been tightened and police are present at the matches.

– We ourselves have taken steps to get more orderlies. It feels very sad and pointless, club president Håkan Wifvesson tells Aftonbladet.

– We have to have them because of safety, which is the most important thing. But we could use the money to develop young people instead of spending it on additional security because of threats, Wifvesson continues.
