Severi Vielälä and Olli Penttala are chasing Finland’s first humpback World Championship medal in 16 years.
The Finnish World Championships in Freestyle and Freesk for the World Cup have been named. The World Championships will start next week with Engadin, Switzerland.

The 23-year-old Vierelä won one race in the recently ended World Cup and was third in the humps. Penttala also reached the podium when he was third in Kumparek in Canada in January.
Prior to this year, the last World Cup prize rime in Finland was in 2016, when in 2016 Jimi Salonen was another. In the mounds, the top3 was even farther, Tapio Luusuan Second place from 2009.
Vielä is not one of the sharpest medal favorites, but if he succeeded, he can fight for medals in both mounds. Penttala is capable of the same.
The previous World Championship medals in Finland have been 16 years. In 2009, Luusua was in Japan’s Inawashiro with silver and a couple of bonuses.
The most potential medal hope in Finland is still Anni Käräväwho has been in a steady condition throughout the winter. On Thursday, he was third in Big Air, Freesk’s Big Air in France. He also achieved the same in the overall race.
