In September, Finland will limit the number of granted visa applications from Russian citizens to one tenth of the current number, announced Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto (Green).

– At the same time, we want to make it easier for people to come to Finland to work, study or to visit relatives, says Haavisto to Svenska EPN.

– So there must be solutions for those who have a reason to come to Finland and ordinary tourist visas to Finland must become more difficult to obtain.

Since Russia lifted the travel restrictions after the corona pandemic this summer, the flow of Russian tourists to Finland has increased greatly. Finland is also considered to have become a transit country for Russians who want to continue in Europe, as flights from Russia have been stopped by sanctions due to Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

Schengen rules and Finnish law do not allow Finland to completely stop issuing tourist visas to Russians.
