The Finnish government is seeking EU support of the equivalent of half a billion kroner to improve the capacity for military transport both on land and at sea.
“These carefully selected projects contribute to building a safe Finland with good supply readiness. Considering the whole of Europe, it is important that Finland is active when it comes to improving military mobility and applies for funding in good time,” says Communications Minister Lulu Ranne in a press release.
The money, a total of 43.16 million euros, is sought for nine projects. This applies, among other things, to financing a thorough repair of the bridge over the Torne river, the railway between Oulu and Laurila, just outside Kemi, and the deepening of a fairway in Hankö. The money is sought from the funds within the EU fund CEF earmarked for improving military mobility in Europe.
