According to Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the right moment to join is right now, when Vladimir Putin is caught in Ukraine. At the same time, the applications of Finland and Sweden would be an extremely important message to Putin.
Fogh Rasmussen, who served as NATO’s secretary general from 2009 to 2014, believes that Finland and Sweden should not delay their applications. He says in an interview that NATO could accept applications roughly overnight.
– I think it would be in Finland’s and Sweden’s own interest to join NATO right now. They now have the opportunity. Putin is currently closed [jossain muualla]so the window may close again soon.
