In Germany, two ninth grade students have been separated from the school for a time of display at the Auschwitz Concentration Camp Museum, says the German broadcasting company Ndr.
One of the students showed a sign and the other photographed the act on the video. The incident took place in May when students from Greifswald were a visit to a museum in southern Poland organized by the school.
Students are scheduled to be transferred to different schools. Their parents apparently intend to take legal action because of the school’s decision, says NDR.
The administration of this school has also filed a crime report. The Ministry of Education of the Mecklenburg-Pommer State reported in its announcement that it only learned about the incident last week.
Before “OK”, now “neo -Nazi greetings”
The “White Power” diameter resembles the OK badge. In it, the thumb and index finger form a circle and the other three fingers are spread.
The position of the fingers is said to show the letters W and P, which refer to the words White Power. The term is central in neo -Nazi circles. It refers to the power of the “white race”, NDR describes.
According to the NDR, a similar incident took place in March when students from another Greifswald school were on a trip to Auschwitz. A photo of the hand mark spread widespread in somme.
At that time, the students who showed the brand were interviewed by the principal and were assigned to the community service for a disabled workshop.
Nettrolls created a new meaning to the hand mark
In the West, the OK sign is commonly used to express approval or that something is good. For example, divers use the OK sign when communicating under water.
In 2017, users of the Anonymous 4CHA discussion column came up with spreading around the web allegations that the OK mark symbolizes the white supremacy. The purpose was to cause confusion and to troll left -wing liberals.
Later, the right -wing began to use the hand sign either seriously, ironically or to irritate the “vassers”. The US anti-Defamation League (ADL), an American anti-Semit organization, added the OK mark to anger in 2019.
