(Finance) – Le purchase intentions of Italians have reached the lowest level for two years now: according to the Monthly Observatory Findomestic (BNP Paribas Group) in June the negative record was caused by the 11.2% drop recorded in the last month. “Over 4 families out of 10 – he comments Claudio Bardazzi, Manager of the Findomestic Observatory – declare that they live in a very or quite problematic situation from an economic point of view and only 36% of Italians manage to save something at the end of the month. Such a situation, combined with the fear of inflation, at the top of consumers’ concerns from November 2022, can only generate caution in the consumption of durable goods”.
The double-digit decline in purchasing intentions for the next three months was generated above all by sectors linked to “renovation” housekeeper. The intention to do work at home falls to its lowest level since last June (-28.3%) as does the propensity to purchase condensing or biomass boilers (-37%), fixtures (-25.1%), systems of thermal insulation (-21.5%) and photovoltaic (-8.9%). The only positive segment of the sector (+3.8%) is that of heat pumps.
From the sector of mobility However, heterogeneous results emerge: on the positive side, motor vehicles gain 24.7% with the arrival of summer and e-bikes (+16.3%). On the other hand, used cars are in sharp decline (-15.7%) while new ones do not go beyond +0.7% despite the effect of government incentives which however is reflected in electrified cars (+41%).
Contrasting trends also for technology: the Findomestic Observatory has detected an increase in purchasing intentions for smartphones (+11.3%), TVs (+3.9%) and large (+7.5%) and small household appliances (+3.3 %) while tablets (-2.5%), PCs (-15.7%, at their lowest level in the last year) and cameras (-17.9%) suffer. The trend in intentions to purchase furniture was also negative (-6.0%), decreasing for the fourth consecutive month and at the lowest levels of the last 12 months.
“Despite the fact that Italians are experiencing a moment dominated by uncertainty – added Bardazzi – we do not give up on giving ourselves a vacation and so do the intentions to purchase a voyage grew by 10.7%, reaching the highest level of the last year”. Free time is recovering: +5.7% for sports equipment and +11.6% for DIY.
