The motive behind the parents’ actions against the then six-year-old girl who was poisoned with vinegar is not yet known.
The fact that the parents went to the hospital with the girl when she had ingested vinegar indicates that the parents did not intend to kill the girl. This is the opinion of the prosecutor, who is working on several different tracks, including that financial motives may have been a contributing factor to the parents’ actions towards the girl, according to SVT.
The parents’ text message conversation
The prosecutor’s theory of a financial motive is strengthened by the parents’ text message conversation, which appears in the police’s preliminary investigation:
“By the way, the doctor said that xxx has basically been diagnosed with brain damage, but it has not been registered,” writes the mother in a text message to the father.
“In other words, we are entitled to both LSS and compensation of SEK 50,000 from Trygg Hansa.”, the mother writes further in the text message, to which the father replies:
“Shit. Hope for more. It may well give a little return,” replies the father, followed by a happy smiley.
“If we have a Christmas miracle, we can get money for Christmas. But we would have to prepare for it taking longer and otherwise”, the mother replies back.
Denies the suspicions
The trial against the parents from Eslöv, who are suspected of having poisoned their daughter, is ongoing at Lund District Court. The couple is charged with extremely serious assault and repeated cases of unlawful deprivation of liberty, aggravated assault and serious breach of peace.
About 50 witnesses have been called to the trial, which is expected to last 19 days. Among the witnesses are nursing staff, neighbors, staff from social services, school and preschool, as well as the girl’s siblings and relatives.
According to the prosecutor, it is a big puzzle to be solved during the trial, and she appeals for the right to take in the overall picture.
The girl who came into the emergency room with a body temperature of 33.9 degrees, on the night of Christmas Eve last year, had, among other things, untreated fractures, marks from a large burn. Something that TV4 Nyheterna previously reported on.
The parents have always denied all criminal suspicions.
Today, under the circumstances, the girl is doing well and goes to school, according to the prosecutor.
