Further on, in Belgium, physical anthropologist April Pijpelink examined the 82 skeletons at home. For months she went bone by bone to find out what happened to the boys from the mass grave. And the result surprised her. “Yes, we thought they were real fighters, because they were soldiers. But judging by the bones, they did not die from their injuries. Most of the boys had meningitis.”
