After a successful release in Japan, Hayao Miyazaki’s latest film finally reveals its release date in France. And we will be able to see it very soon in the cinema.
[Mis à jour le 29 août 2023 à 10h17] This is great news for French Hayao Miyazaki fans. The latest film from the Japanese director, The boy and the heron, is finally entitled to a French release date. We will be able to discover the latest from Ghibli studios on November 1, 2023 in French dark rooms. The animated film will therefore be released only a few months after its Japanese release, on July 14th. It had welcomed more than 4.9 million spectators.
The boy and the heron has long been a mystery to fans of the Japanese studio. No promotion had been made around the film before its Japanese release, so we did not know what the feature film was about, or what it would look like. We now know that Hayao Miyazaki’s last film (to whom we owe in particular Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle or Princess Mononoke) follows the turbulent daily life of an 11-year-old boy who leaves the city for the countryside following the tragic death of his mother. He meets a gray heron who will help him better understand the world and its mysteries. The film will be presented at the opening of the Toronto International Film Festival and the San Sebastián Festival, before its French premiere at the Lumière Festival on October 17.
Synopsis – After the disappearance of his mother in a fire, Mahito, an 11-year-old boy, must leave Tokyo to go and live in the countryside in the village where she grew up. He settles with his father in an old mansion located on a huge estate where he meets a gray heron who gradually becomes his guide and helps him through his discoveries and questions to understand the world around him and to break through the mysteries of life.
