Finale Emilia, construction sites of the ‘Italy 1 Giga Plan’ begin

Finale Emilia construction sites of the Italy 1 Giga Plan

(Finance) – I’m leaving in The final Emily (in the province of Modena) the construction sites of Open Fiber in the context of ‘Italy 1 Giga Plan‘: the project is part of the public intervention plans of the Italian Strategy for Ultra Broadband, financed and promoted by the Department for the digital transformation of Presidency of the Council thanks to the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and implemented by Infratel Italia. To the public funds, which amount to 70% of the project, a further 30% financed by Open Fiber is added. The intervention concerns areas not covered by at least one network capable of supplying connection speed in downloads equal to or greater than 300 Mbit/s. In the municipality, over 2,220 residents will be connected through aFTTH infrastructure?(Fiber To The Home) which will extend for approximately 88 kilometers with over 70% of it being created through the reuse of existing cable ducts and underground or aerial networks.

“Italy at 1 Giga is the first of the public intervention plans of the Italian Strategy for Ultra Broadband – states the councilor for Smart Cities and IT Services of the Municipality of Finale Emilia, Elisa Horses – aims to develop an ultra-broadband network across the entire national territory to create a public telecommunications infrastructure consistent with the objectives of the European Digital Agenda. Finally, once the infrastructure network is completed, we will all be able to be a little more equal with respect to the opportunities that technology offers us and will offer us in the future.”

“Thanks to the excellent relationship with the municipal administration in Finale Emilia we can start the construction sites to create the ultra-broadband infrastructure of the “Italy 1 Giga Plan” – he explains Melanie Schiefelbein, Field Manager of Open Fiber-. The services enabled by ultra-broadband are numerous and extend into different areas, such as: telemedicine, Smart City applications such as sustainable mobility, cloud computing, and even environmental monitoring, management of public lighting, digitalisation of services for tourism. These are just some of the benefits that citizens, businesses and municipal administration will be able to enjoy thanks to the connection which can reach a speed of 10 Gigabit per second”.

With around 14 million real estate units already connected in Italy to its new ultra-broadband network, Open Fiber is the main Italian FTTH operator and among the leaders in Europe. To date, the connectivity ultrafast on the network created by Open Fiber it is available in 240 large and medium-sized cities and in over 4,600 small municipalities.
