Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida says he finds it wrong to compare Metaverse and MMOs, according to Yoshida Metaverse is not fun
According to FF 14 director Naoki Yoshida, Metaverse isn’t fun and doesn’t need to be. Therefore, comparing Metaverse and MMOs is also unreasonable. On the Square Enix front, the perspective on Metaverse is a bit mixed. Square Enix president announced that they were looking forward to the NFT idea, but later announced that the idea was abandoned.
Metaverse is not fun, if the purpose of MMOs is to entertain
During the “Metaverse craze” last year, different explanations came from the game world on the subject. Gabe Newell stated that he did not understand the interest in Metaverse, which has served as MMOs for years. However, according to Naoki Yoshida, who is also an MMO producer, there is an important difference between MMO and Metaverse.
Yoshida used the following statements in an interview with a local magazine:
” Frankly, I see Metaverse as a virtual reality environment that aims to replace the real world. I think Metaverse has no problem with providing entertainment to users. I use Metaverse where people will use their avatars in virtual reality to shop for groceries or in Shinjiku. “I see it as a place where they can travel. I think that never provides the fun that MMOs offer, and that’s not what it’s meant for.”
When Naoki Yoshida was asked if he would work on something related to the Metaverse, he replied, “I would focus on creating a fun environment in the virtual world, not on the Metaverse environment.”
