Director and executive producer Alex Jordan said the film takes place in the not-so-distant future.

“The subject matter is that there’s a future enhanced human race that has mixed their brains with AI,” he explained. “And there’s the Freeborn (who are) people who may have other implants, but their brains are not fused with AI, and are fighting against them.”

Jordan said the former city hall building is the setting for a penal colony in the film.

“We have an enhanced person coming with an elite guard that is going to do an interview with a Freeborn person,” he said of a segment filmed just after 2 pm Friday. “This is the opening as they’re securing the perimeter and landing.”

Jordan, who has produced five seasons of the television series Private Eyes, as well as Mayor of Kingstown said Brantford is a great place for film production.

In 2022 the City of Brantford was nominated for an Outstanding Film Commission Award at the Location Managers Guild International Awards Ceremony.

A film commission is a specialized office under the authority of a government entity for the purpose of promoting the region through the development of film, video, and multimedia production.

Brantford has also been the location for the filming of several episodes of Murdoch Mysteries and The Handmaids Tale.
