Film producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for rape in Los Angeles.
The court found him guilty already in December, but the verdict was announced today, Thursday. Weinstein was convicted of three different sexual crimes against one woman.
It was not Weinstein’s first conviction.
He was found guilty of sexually harassing a production assistant and raping a female actress in February 2020. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison. The acts had taken place in 2006 and 2013.
Today’s sentence will be added to the previous prison sentence, which Weinstein has 20 more years to serve.
Weinstein’s years of sexual harassment against several women came to light in October 2017, when New York Times (you will switch to another service) told revealed the inappropriate behavior of the film producer.
In total, more than 80 women have accused him of sexual abuse and harassment.
Among the first were the Actors Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd. Later, among other things Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie joined the women who came forward about Weinstein’s sexual harassment.
