In a new video, Marco Risch from Nerdkultur takes a look at the film year 2025. He explains which films you should keep an eye on in 2025.
Who is Marco Risch? Since 2015, Marco Risch has been providing news, analyses, reviews and interviews about current films and series on his YouTube channel Nerdkultur.
In addition, he sits down with his colleague Yves Arievich every week and chats about pop culture film topics such as Star Wars, Marvel and DC in the Nerd & Kultur podcast.

In a new video, Marco shows films that will be released in 2025 and that you should definitely keep an eye on. In addition to Nosferatu, Better Man and Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance with Wings, he shows 10 other films that are promising and are expected to be released this year.

Music, action and anti-heroes
The first four films that Marco names in his video take you back to well-known worlds. In 10th place he names the music film Kneecap. The film is a semi-fictional biopic of real-life Irish band Knee Cap. The special thing about the film is that the band members play themselves in the film.
At number 9 we go back to the assassin world of John Wick. But this time in the spin-off with Ballerina. There are minor doubts here due to reshoots. But they were shot by the creator of John Wick himself, namely Chad Stahelski. This could even be the last film in which we see Keanu Reeves as John Wick.
In 8th place, Marco surprisingly names a Marvel film. But it’s not Captain America, it’s Thunderbolts. The squad full of anti-heroes is reminiscent of DC’s Suicide Squad. Of all the MCU projects in 2025, Marco has the most hope in Thunderbolts.
7th place goes to Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning for Marco. He hopes for a worthy farewell in the 8th part of the action series. Although he had problems with the 7th part, which also flopped at the box office, hope remains, especially for the visuals.
Zombies, cars and an animated sequel
In places 6 to 4, Marco presents 2 sequels and a film that wants to take your breath away, especially with its technology. In 6th place is 28 Years Later, which we also featured in our 2025 horror preview. The sequel to the modern zombie classic is intended to be the beginning of a new trilogy. What’s particularly exciting is the fact that the film was shot entirely on an iPhone.
With Top Gun: Maverick, director Joseph Kosinski showed breathtaking images from a cockpit. He continues this in Marco’s 5th place, but this time with cars. In F1, Brad Pitt gets behind the wheel of a racing car. The film was shot on real Formula 1 race tracks.
Another Disney sequel, Zootopia 2, will hit theaters in 2025. Marco is really looking forward to this, as he particularly liked the buddy cop style of the two characters. He even names the original Zootopia as one of his favorite animated films.
Clones, crime novels and the ultimate superhero
What are the 3 films to keep an eye on in 2025? In third place, Marco names the sci-fi film Mickey 17 by Bong Joon-ho. The South Korean celebrated a global success with Parasite and social criticism doesn’t seem to be missing in the latest film either. Marco even says that it could be the next possible Everything Everywhere All At Once.
With Wake Up Dead Man, Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series continues in 2025 and is number 2 on Marco’s list. The third part of the crime series will again feature many well-known actors. If you don’t want to wait that long, Marco recommends the Poker Face series by Rian Johnson.
At number 1, Marco has the return of probably the most classic superhero of all time: James Gunn’s Superman. Marco sees the special thing about the film in the expectations and opinions of the fan community. Because Superman is not just the reboot of the hero, it is the first film in the new DC universe, which already started in the form of an animated series with Creature Commando.
