Film and series of the week – Norwegian victim narcissism

MOVIES

“Sick of Myself” (30/6)

Cafe assistant Signe is 30 years old and lacks talent. Her narcissism and jealousy become a driving force to sabotage her boyfriend’s nascent successes. To get more attention, she medicates herself and develops serious skin problems.

Cannes-debuting director and screenwriter Kristoffer Borgli has made an anti-romcom where “body horror” meets Scandinavian realism. On self-actualization through sacrificial capital in the contemporary “inclusive” world of culture and advertising. The film fills the wave of talented Norwegian auteurs in the wake of Joachim Trier.

Jennifer Lawrence as Maddie in the sex comedy “No hard feelings” about a 30-year-old woman who is hired to take 19-year-old Percy’s (Andrew Barth Feldman) virginity.

“No hard feelings” (30/6)

Skabrö’s comedy written by one half of the “Good boys” screenwriting duo. Jennifer Lawrence plays Maddie, a failed Uber driver who becomes a sex worker when her car is impounded. She answers a personals ad where a couple of helicopter parents want to hire her to “date” their lanky 19-year-old son Percy before he’s sent off to college. The humor seems to play on a contemporary normalization of prostitution and reversed gender stereotypes, making the mission more difficult than Maddie imagined when the young man turns out to be terrified of female touch.

The fourth and final season of Agent Jack Ryan promises to be the character’s biggest challenge.
