On Tuesday evening, the Royal Opera issued a press release in which it “forcefully” distanced itself from the views expressed by an employee in social media.
It is the newspaper Expressen that in a cultural column drew attention to the statements where one of the Opera’s soloists praises Russia and wishes for the life of the newspaper’s Russia correspondent.
The employee has now been removed from service at the same time as the Royal Opera House reiterates its support for the Ukrainian people and resistance to Russia’s invasion.
“Employees at the Royal Opera have the right to express private opinions freely. In this case, however, we judge that the statement is against the Royal Opera’s code of conduct. We have therefore chosen to remove the employee in question from the Royal Opera’s productions while we investigate the consequences of the statement,” writes the Opera in the press release.

Sweden’s economy is going backwards. During the second quarter, Sweden’s gross domestic product (GDP) declined by 0.3 percent compared to the previous quarter, according to Statistics Sweden.
“The downturn in the economy was broad but was sustained by foreign trade in goods, where exports increased and imports decreased,” says Jessica Engdahl, section manager at the National Accounts, in a press release.
For the most part, the GDP fall can be explained by the industry’s liquidation of stocks, according to Statistics Sweden.
But the decline was still less than feared. The economists’ average forecast was minus 0.8 percent, according to the Bloomberg news agency’s compilation.
During the first quarter, GDP increased by 0.8 percent, according to revised figures.
Compared to the second quarter last year, GDP increased by 0.5 percent.
