The thriller by exceptional director David Fincher (Seven) was torn apart by critics when it was released in cinemas and then achieved an incomparable cult status. GQ asked Fincher in the interview if he had an aversion to re-watching his old films. The director replied:
No. Yes. It’s like looking at pictures from elementary school. “Ok, I was there.” […] I haven’t seen Fight Club in 20 years. And I don’t feel like it either.
Fincher’s words suggest that he is ashamed of the cult film, or at least sees it as immature children’s stuff. In any case, he doesn’t explain his disgust at looking into the past in more detail. Maybe he just doesn’t want to be held captive by the shadow of old achievements. By the way, Fight Club has a score of 8.5 out of 10 and is therefore one of the best rated films in the community.
