Fight against climate change, FS Group among leading companies

FS Ferraris more and more self produced energy

(Finance) – The FS group got the A- rating by Carbon Disclosure Project, the international organization that helps companies measure and manage environmental impacts. It gives news FS Newsthe Group’s information portal, explaining that every year the organization assigns a score, recognized as a reference standard of corporate transparency in relation to the fight against climate change: the FS Group went from B in 2021 to A- in 2022, positioning itself above the European average and that of the railway sector. In its assessment – which involves more than 18,000 companies worldwide – CDP takes into consideration the objectives, strategic and financial planning solutions, governance, risk management processes, the ability to report the types of greenhouse gases, the energy saving and efficiency initiatives.

“The evaluation of the Carbon Disclosure Project confirms the commitment of the Group led by the CEO Luigi Ferraris in the fight against climate change and reinforces our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, ahead of the European targets by 10 years – said the CEO Luigi Ferraris – L he energy is an important topic for us. We are an energy-intensive company, and we consume about 2% of national demand, which is why we have launched a plan to self-produce it by enhancing our spaces that are no longer functional for railway operations. The goal is to cover at least 40% of our internal demand, mainly through solar and wind energy”.

Inclusion in the “Leadership” band confirms the commitment of the FS Group, which is advancing towards the goal of carbon neutrality: the first step is to halve, by 2030, direct and indirect emissions and reduce those in the value chain by 30%. The final goal, scheduled for 2040, is zero emissions. To become “net zero”, FS is developing an energy self-production plan which provides for the installation of photovoltaic and wind power plants – in stations, workshops and other railway spaces – capable of producing 2.6 TWh of energy per year.

Alongside the increase in the level of energy independence, FS is also working towards the reduction of consumption, energy efficiency, the activation of fleets of trains and buses with ever higher environmental performance, further electrification of the railway network and experimentation of new fuels. In recent weeks the managing director Luigi Ferraris he was also reconfirmed Ambassador of the European Pact for the Climate by the European Commission.
