The Russian Ministry of Defense states that two villages along the front line in Ukraine have been captured. It concerns the village of Andrijivka in the Luhansk region and Pishtjane in the Kharkiv region.
The two villages are less than two miles apart in a part of the front line where Russia has made slow progress in recent weeks.
Andrijivka, a village of fewer than 20 residents, was one of the last villages in the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine still controlled by Kiev, and has been a key target for Moscow. Russia says it has captured a string of villages, many of them consisting of only a few streets and abandoned buildings, in recent weeks.

Russia says its warplanes have prevented two American bombers from crossing the Russian border in the Barents Sea in the Arctic.
The U.S. military routinely conducts flights over international waters and maintains that the operations are conducted in neutral airspace and in accordance with international law.
But in recent months, Moscow has reacted more aggressively to the exercises. In June, the United States was accused of using drones over neutral waters in the Black Sea to help Ukraine attack the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula.
Moscow then said that the flight risked leading to “direct” military confrontation with NATO, and that the military was being prepared for an “operational response”.

A Norwegian flight to Gdansk had to make a stopover in Gothenburg on Sunday morning, writes GP.
The reason was a smell that could resemble smoke.
– It becomes extra serious when there are 178 people on board, says Christer Persson, rescue leader at JRCC to GP.
The plane flew from Gardermoen in Oslo on its way to Gdansk in Poland. The cause was an alarm about a fire on the plane, which later turned out to be a broken smoke detector.
The emergency services were on the scene.
– We were at the scene, but there was nothing dangerous. We basically turned around on the spot, says Lars Joselius at the rescue service.
It is unclear when the flight will continue.
A flight is on its way to pick up the passengers according to Norwegian, writes Ellen Laurin, acting press manager at Swedavia.

There are no reports that anyone was injured, writes the head of the military administration, Serhij Popko, on Telegram.
Popko said the “systematic attacks” by drones show that Russia is “testing new tactics, looking for new approaches to the capital and trying to reveal where our air defenses are located.”
Ukraine’s air defense system destroyed 35 of the 39 drones and two cruise missiles fired by Russia overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Telegram. The attacks, which have not been commented on by Russia, are said to have targeted ten Ukrainian regions.
