Fifteen soldiers have been killed in two explosions in Burkina Faso, the military says. The attack is the latest in the country, which is battling a jihadist insurgency.
The explosions took place on a road in a region in the northern parts of the country. Another person has been injured.
A vehicle first hit an explosive device. While soldiers were securing the area, a second device was fired remotely, causing many casualties, according to the country’s military.
Since 2015, at least 2,000 people have been killed and 1.8 million people displaced in Burkina Faso by jihadists with links to the terrorist movements al-Qaeda and IS. About 40 percent of the country’s territory is outside government control, according to official figures.
