Fifa’s president, Gianni Infantino, held a press conference on Saturday ahead of the World Cup premiere. Then he went on the attack against the Western world, which criticized the championship.
– This morality cake from the Western world is so one-sided, it’s just hypocrisy, he says during his press conference.
He also connected his own personal history with the World Cup in Qatar, suggesting that the way he dealt with being bullied as a child, so should the West deal with the World Cup in Qatar.
– As a child at school I was bullied because I was red-haired and had freckles. I was bullied. What do you do then? You lock yourself in your room and cry and then you try to make friends, you don’t try to start fights and accuse people, says Infantino.
“Please, let’s celebrate”
The Fifa president spoke for a total of an hour before the assembled press corps and concluded by once again asking for focus on football:
– We have fantastic stadiums and a city that wants to welcome the world. Please, let’s celebrate and hope we can bring some people joy.
