A big change is coming in FIFA 23: the TOTW is paused, the Weekend League rewards look different now. But players are skeptical.
That changes now in FIFA 23: As announced in FIFA 23, the Team of the Week will pause during the current World Cup. The last TOTW for the time being is “TOTW 9”, which was released last week – and that will also be in TOTW packs until the TOTW is continued again.
There is no TOTW 10 for now. Teams of the Week will not return until league football has started again.
However, Team of the Week has always been an important part of Weekend League rewards, in which Team of the Week cards are distributed as red player picks. That will change in the coming weeks.
Here’s how the Weekend League rewards are changing now
What comes in FIFA 23 rewards? Weekend League Rewards will continue to feature player picks with FUT Champions players, but will no longer draw them from a TOTW.
Instead, FUT Champions, i.e. the Weekend League, will now have “Min. GES Rare Gold Packs and Player Choices”. So the normal gold cards from players, with different minimum ratings.
How high this minimum rating is, however, is still unclear. However, the announcement is already causing skepticism among players. They fear that the rewards from the Weekend League could be even weaker than they were with the TOTW.
How players react: A change in the Weekend League rewards has already been requested by many players, as in many cases the TOTW simply cannot compete with other current event maps, such as the PTG maps. However, many players hoped that a change would bring such event cards into the rewards, not gold cards.
The echo is correspondingly skeptical, especially in the FIFA subreddit.
However, a few players are also a little more hopeful. “Depends on the rating for me, if it’s like 1 out of 5 with 85+ then it’s probably better than red cards,” weighs one user (via reddit): “I can imagine though that it’s about 83 + picks that would be terrible. That would basically always be a 1,000-coin card instead of red picks.”
“A 3 x 83+ would be terrible. I think 5 x 83+ replacing the red picks on 6 wins would be fair. Maybe 5 x 84+ for 9 wins and then 85+ for 11 wins?” one user suggests (via reddit), “Hopefully they really thought about it so it’s no worse than the red picks.”
It remains to be seen how strong the rewards will ultimately be. It should also be exciting to see how the player picks are distributed after a win. For the time being, however, one thing is at least clear: TOTW cards are no longer available, at least during the World Cup.
