FIFA 23 faces gambling lawsuit

PlayStation players have sued Sony for loot boxes in FIFA 23. A sizable sum will be returned to the players if the court’s repayment order is not revoked.

Although FIFA 23 is Electronic Arts’ game, PlayStation players buy gaminet boxes via Sony. Austrian players, who have bought hundreds of dollars worth of loot boxes since the game was released, filed a lawsuit against Sony, probably because they were not happy with what they got.

Austrian players sue Sony over FIFA 23 loot boxes

An Austrian court has ruled that FIFA’s loot boxes violated the country’s gambling laws, German publication GamesWirtschaft reported. The court requested the affected players to be promptly refunded in full by EA.

Sony and EA have not yet made a statement on the subject. However, EA, which has faced similar lawsuits in the previous periods, returned the result from the appeal court and won. It is not known if there will be a different result in this case, but we think that the players should spend with this awareness.

FIFA 23 offers loot boxes in Ultimate Team (FUT) mode. Players can recruit football players with their FUT points and strengthen their teams even more. They also try their luck by buying player cards for these points. However, it must be said that this is a gamble.
