As of March 1, 2023, the Public Health Authority recommends two top-up doses per year against covid-19 for people aged 80 and over and for those who live in special housing for the elderly.
For people aged 65 to 79 and for younger people with risk factors, one dose per year is recommended.
According to the Public Health Agency, older people develop a slightly worse immune response after vaccination and the immunity declines faster than in younger healthy people, which means that they have a greater need for top-up doses than younger people. Even for people in risk groups, it will be important to have top-up doses in the future as well, the authority writes on its website.
The protection against serious illness and death is still considered to be good for those who are 64 years of age and younger and who do not have medical risk factors.
