Fewer than half pass the driving test: “Become more nonchalant”

Summer is a time when many take the opportunity to get their driver’s license, but far from everyone succeeds in their driving. In the summer of 2022, 53 percent passed the driving test, compared to 47 percent in June and July this year. This shows statistics from the Swedish Transport Administration that SVT Nyheter Södertälje has requested.

The reduction is noticeable in Södertälje

In Södertälje, five years ago more than half managed the drive-up, but during the first two months of the summer this year, the proportion is 47.7 percent. However, it is an increase compared to a bottom quotation last summer of under 44 percent.

But traffic teacher Magnus Aronsson believes that the reduction in passing driving tests is also noticeable in Södertälje. He says that today it is more common for students to contact the driving school only after they have driven up several times.

– When you talk to some students, you understand that they have already driven up maybe eight, ten times, he says.

“We have zero vision”

He also says that it is noticeable that more people book driving tests without prior knowledge when it comes to driving. He experiences greater nonchalance when it comes to getting a driver’s license, something he believes can be a risk in traffic.

– It’s not good. We have a zero vision that we are working towards, he says.

He does not have a direct answer to how to reverse the trend, but emphasizes that the worst way would be to make driving tests easier.

Even with regard to the theory tests, the percentage who pass it has decreased. If you look at the last five years, in the summer of 2020 48 percent were approved in the country and this year 42 percent.
