Fewer are shot to death – more explode

— We had an extreme increase in fatal shootings last year. When we have such a large and sharp increase in one year, it is not entirely unusual to see a decrease afterwards, says criminologist Manne Gerell, associate professor at Malmö University, who researches gang violence and the geography of crime, to SVT.

The number of shootings decreased between the first quarter of the year from 94 to 84. In contrast, the number of explosions increased from 26 to 46.

Most explosions took place in Stockholm and police region South. Explosions have, among other things, been directed at relatives of people in criminal networks, according to Manne Gerell.
