Fewer and fewer people in Sweden have chosen to divorce in recent years.
Just over 27,600 couples applied for divorce at the country’s district courts last year. This is a decrease from 2021, when Sweden’s courts received 28,258 applications for divorce. Even then, a reduction was seen compared to the previous year. In 2020, roughly 31,600 applications were received.
Gunnar Andersson, demography professor at Stockholm University, thinks the development is surprising. – After the pandemic, one could imagine that an increase in the number of divorces would have been reasonable, he tells TT.
